While I was re-potting some of my houseplants this week, I noticed that some of them were so root bound that the poor roots were literally jammed and locked into place. I could see how this denseness could stunt the vibrancy and health of the plant. I immediately started to break apart, stretch and unbind the roots and I could just sense how much more freedom it gave the plant to thrive.
That got me thinking about how our bodies can get locked in over time if we keep ourselves in a container of small body movements. You know, those minuscule movements like eating, writing, typing, doing the dishes, watching TV, etc. All these small, repetitive movements get etched into our body structure and create denseness in our tissues. No wonder we can feel jammed and locked up in our low back, our hips, and our neck and shoulders. So, when we DO take some big body movements and stretches…. the body feels like that root bound plant that just got a reprieve!
Take your body in all directions in some way every day. Here’s a quick way to remember!
